ODS SID's and reloading master data question

Question: We will need to reload Material, and the SID's will be deleted as well for Material - So, will we also have to reload any ODS's that use Material?

Originally, I thought that the ODS tables did not contain SID's for material but now that I think about it some, I believe they may, so they obviuosly will be out of sync once we drop material. I know we have to reload the Cubes.

Thanks!

Answer:
I believe that SIDs don't appear in the ODS unless you have the BEx Reporting selected in the Settings -- this option consequently affects the data volume and loading performance.

Sorry, I didn't respond earlier but your post was locked -- I hope it wasn't urgent

Answer:
Thanks for the timely feedback Robert, it is appreciated!

I did some testing and you are correct, the Bex flag does impact the SID's on the ODS, i.e. the ODS Bex report fails after reloading the material, with the following error:

Abort System error in program CL_RSDM_READ_MASTER_DATA and form _SID_DIRECT_READ.....

so the SID's are out of sync. Also, a former colleague reloads Material in the BW a few times a year and they don't have to reload the ODS as they do not use the ODS for bex reporting.

I am testing a few other options that I have (i.e. reloading the ODS is my last resort), I'll post my results later today as an FYI for anyone else who may have this issue.

thanks,
Steve....

PS yea the admins locked the other thread.

Could you please be so kind to use the term "moderator" when you speak about me ?

Admins is more those guys that run scripts to lock as many postings as possible a day ; I believe they made a bet on how many they can lock per week or something similar.

.. One more thought; it may be possible to replace 'BEx Reporting' using an InfoSet Query and thus obviate the need for SIDs. Maybe someone else has some experience of this(?) or it should not be hard to test.

Answer:
2 Robert Williams.

What does the phrase "If you set the flag “BEx Reporting”, SIDs instead of characteristic key values are stored" mean?
I've created 2 indentical ODS. 1st is with checked BExReporting
2nd - with unchecked BEXReporting.

Structures of active data tables for both ODS are the same. It doesn't contain SID fields at all. What difference?

My question is explained in note 565725

Answer:
Hi Segey,
If you look at the number of records created when you load then you can see the difference between them.
Thanks,

To Sergey Shablykin

Sergey,

I think BW doesn't reconstruct the ODS and doesn't adds SIDs there. After setting "BEx reporting" flag, I made a simple report and analized the SQL with RSRT. And what do you think BW does? It joins "active data" table of ODS with SID table to get SIDs. I heard that "BEx works with SIDs" but I believed in more compex manner.
