first how do i make a hiearachy datasource in R/3 and then make it available on biw.

Why don't you go in the source system,
use transaction SBIW,
position your cursor on the root node,
click the binocular icon,
type "hierarchies",
push the green tick button,
and see what happens ?
You then read the first title,
click the binocular+ icon,
read the next title and soon up to when you have the feeling you are in the area you are interested in,
and then double click the documentation icon (that is, the white paper symbol on the left of each activity in this IMG).
