Cockpit Extraction and ODS

Question: We are using ODS to first extract the Sales header and line item data and then load it from thereon to our cube from the ODS.

I wanted to know what should be our criterion to define the update rules at the ODS level. Specifically for the key figures should we define tham as "Overwrite" or "Addition" at the ODS level.

I believe that R/3 extractors send both the before and after image when changes are made to the documents . So "Addition" is probably the right way to go but want to confirm this with experts .

Also , how can we set this overwrite / addition criterion at the ODS level based on the Delta method used by the extractor . Is there some kind of standards you follow to do this ?

Please reply ASAP as this is causing some issues in our production data .

Thanks

Can any one of you please reply to this query .

It is somewhat urgent as we have to fix our cubes by reloading from the ODS's

Thx.

Answer:
HI

This is for ODS

When you apply update rules
1). Click on infoobeject
2). for each info object you can see ADDITION or OVERWRITE OR NO UPDATE option.
3). Just select any one of them

4). Click it.

This for CUBE

). Click on infoobeject
2). for each info object you can see ADDITION OR NO UPDATE option.
3). Just select any one of them

4). Click it.

I hope it helps you

Thanks for you reply but I believe you have either not understood or read my question completely .

I am not asking for the ways of defining update rules at ODS / Cube level. Even I can see and follow what these mean .

My question is specifically around loading ODS 's from SD cockpit extractors . Do we set the update rules in ODS to Addition or Overwrite when pulling delta's from R/3 is what I wanted to know .

And to take it one step further how do you know what is the right thing to do based on the delta method used by the extractor .

Will appreciate any reply at the earliest .

Thx

Answer:
Hi,

If your delta request has only the changed/added/deleted values then use addition.

If your request contains the new value after the change/add/delete use overwrite.

IE.

If your init load for 1 transaction has got value 100 in Quantity, then a change is made that reduces this Quantity to 80.

If you load delta with only the changed value this will mean that you would get -20 in yor transaction line. If you use addition this will the correctly take the original 100 and add -20 so that the value is 80.

However if you load the new value then the value in the transaction is 80 and you should use overwrite when loading this transaction to your ODS which will give you the correct value of 80.

I know, and it's on purpose to save space that this is a simplified explanation on how delta functionality works, but this was to give you a quick answer to your specific question.

We can start another topic regarding fully examining the delta mechanisms if that's of any interest. I'd like that...

Kind regards
