Question:
Hi All,
Is there a way to define a sub total? Eg:
sales Orders Qty
A123 10
B123 05
C123 06
D123 02
Subtotal 23
E123 10
F123 10
G123 05
Total 25
As you see above, I need to have a subtotal and a Total field. How do i define this in BeX?
Regards,
Lee
Answer:
Try using conditional totals. In the query definition you can open the characterisitc properties and select 'conditional' totals, repeating the same for whichever character you want sub-totaled, and selecting 'never' for the ones you are not interested in.
This can also be done from the context menu in the results area of your workbook, you can try it on the cell with a specific character, and see how it goes. ("All Characteristics->supress result rows-><make your choice>")
It's worked for me.
Sorry, gotta rush to a meeting. No time for more details!

is there any logic as in where you would like this subtotal???
'cause now it seems rather random...
Answer:
Hi,
You can also create a hierarchy on the infoobject you are using. With the hierarchy alternative you also get the possibility to choose the subtotals )(the nodes) names.
You create hierarchies by rightclicking on the infoobject your using (the A123-object in you example).
Would be interesting if SR could follow up on ElBelgios question because I do not understand conditional totals eather?!

'Conditional' is, like in Excel sub-totals, when the value of the characteristic changes, the system calculates the subtotals and outputs it as a 'Results' row.
Was El Belgio's question addressed to me? or the original poster?

to the original poster... at the time I posted it, your answer was not visible for me yet

euh... it depends on what condition you would like subtotals... from your example I can't make that up, it just seems like a random subtotal somewhere in the list...
