Question:
I got error while loading transaction data in ODS
RSAR 196:Infoobject does not contain alpha-confirming value.
Steps
Infoobject XYZ-CHAR(6)
1)Infoobject -XYZ(Alpha routine) loaded alone manually got loaded with Alpha conversion.
2)Transaction data containing Infoobject XYZ loaded gave error
RSAR 196:Infoobject does not contain alpha-confirming value.
3)when we change data in PSA from 1 to 000001 and load in ODS loads proper
In PSA, data is coming as 1 instead of 000001 and hence from PSA to ODS gives error
4)we checked box for Alpha conversion in Transfer structure(OPTIONAL CONVERSION ROUTINE) for infoobject -XYZ and then Data loaded properly.
any clues as why it didnt load without checking that check box in Transfer structure called (OPTIONAL CONVERSION ROUTINE)
Note- 651114 refers same problem but not soln for our patch level as ours is 3.1C SP- 16

Where is the data coming from? R/3?
I had a situation here after our upgrade from 2.1c to 3.1 Content where we got the same message on data coming from R/3 that was resolved by checking that box in the transfer rules to use the conversion routine.
I am sure I won't say this the right way but the way I understand it even if alpha conversion is checked for an InfoObject, if the data is coming from R/3, it is "expected" to be in the alpha converted format, and when it is not you get the error you received. Checking that box in the transfer rules applies the conversion routine and everything is OK.

I have experienced this problem previously.
Try ticking the “Optional Conversion” check box on the transfer rules (on source system).
