Question:
Hi All,
I apologize first of all if this is not viewed as a BW topic.
Is anyone here going to TechEd? What BW related workshoops/talks is everyone going to?
Regards,
EL
Answer:
i will be there
i will do most of the advanced bw topics -- most of them are on wednesday ..... see you there
Answer:
I will be there as well. I'm flexible on what I will do, but I intend on going to most of the BWs for initiates.

Answer:
Let it live until somebody complains...
I'll be there as well, but one week later than you, most probably...
If I can give a tip : consult the internet site and mark in advance what you would like to attend ! When you are there, you just can't choose because there are too many things happening at the same time, even less if you take some time to discuss with consultancy agencies that have their stands there.
And you should also consider attending more global presentation about Netweaver in its entirety, because just focusing on BW would lead you to miss the possibility to have an overview of the whole scope.

I've never been to any SAP convention. Is it worth the money and time ? I would spend my resource on SAP courses, but I am not sure about these events.
Answer:
I went to SAP TechEd in Las Vegas last year. I thought it was worthwhile but for me and the rest of my group a lot of things weren't directly applicable to work because we were on 2.1c and most of the topics were 3.0b looking forward to 3.5.
Now that we are on 3.1 Content we are reviewing some of the presentations and taking advantage where we can.
The other thing I think is how much is your organization using or planning to use NetWeaver in all it scope? Our organization is not, so again the information presented was nice to know but not necessarily immediately applicable.
Answer:
This time it's all about 3.5. So I am not going.
How come nobody talked about it in 2000 (Las Vegas) or 200? (Los Angeles)? I attended both as they were topical for me because we had just moved to 2.0B ....
I met a few SAPfans at some ASUG bash at Denver and another SAP binge at San Fransisco this year. These 2 have moved on, meaning they no longer contribute to this forum. CHC knows about one of them.
We should wear a tag saying 'Hi! R u a SAPFan? I am!'

Answer:
I am definitely not going I agree with SR it is all about 3.5.
Regarding NetWeaver all that SAP is talking companies already have that middleware in place it is more hype than reality.
To me NetWeaver is an alias for SAP BW plus something little more. SAP conventions are too expensive and there is hardly much learning to get there like SAP training courses.
Just my view.

Answer:
SAP will be providing certification tests for Netweaver '04 this year at SAPTechEd. That alone makes it worth going!
Answer:
I will b there in SanDiego next weekend... Its definitely worth going there and learning from experiences whtever the versions(2.x, 3.x) may be... coz u will b the latest guy in ur team who knows most latest things almost prectically once u attend these workshops....
catch u there...
Answer:
Again, I cannot understand this bizarre euphoria over NetWeaver.
Folks, just wake up when SAP offered SAP Portals every fool and is dog said all companies will implement it. I am yet to find one decent place that is using SAP Portals. Netweaver is also the same people already have MQ, Crossworld people will not throw all this and replace it by NetWeaver. Sometimes all this old wine in new bottle concept amazes.
Least is I am amazed at how many people who do not even have common sense exist out there. They will believe anything.

Answer:
Maybe I shouldn't have mentionned the term "Netweaver"...
What I intended to say was that as you have the possibility to get in touch with other aspects than just BW itself, it is a good idea to at least attend one or another more global presentation.
Sothat at least you don't have to rely on other's point of view if somebody in your company is speaking about -for instance- installing Portals. (by the way, I know at least 2 companies using it, but you need the company AND the sap implementation to be mature for this)
Spending the money on SAP courses is better IF you have a detailed aim. But I remember several people coming here to ask "what training should I attend", as they don't know a bit of the story. At SapTech, you may have a first approach of the whole story. This said, I would never spend my own money on this.
For what regards the version 3.5, how many posting did we had here stating "what are the main differences between version x & y, is it worth upgrading ?", so again I believe that's a sort of questions you may answer partially there.
Now, all this said, I think I will send my team there next year, but will consider this as an incentive, as I don't expect them to come back with direct practical solutions to be applied.

Thank you. Now I don't feel so bad missing out on these conventions....
Answer:
I went in '02, and it was worth it to go. But at the time it was focused on 3.0 and that is what we are on. And it was definately good to go to some of the protals and netweaver presentations as well to get an overall understanding of SAP's integration scheme.
This go around, I can't go, but that is OK, since its 3.5 focused and we are still on 3.0 and I am not looking to move to 3.5 until next summer, so it would be a waste to go.
If you are in sync or close to being in sync with what they are focusing on it could be worth it.
On the note of another conference, how about the BW & Portals conference in the spring? Is that worth it? (If its 3.5 focused as well, it might be worth going as we will be closer to moving over to 3.5 at that time.)
