Can I Initialise after "Full" loads

Question: Hi All,

I had data already with "Full" Packages. Now I wud like to implement Init/Delta packages. Do I need to delete the existing data loaded via "full" loads. Please suggest me.

Thanks,

Answer:
if you are talking about loading InfoCubes, you don't... however when you're talking about loading ODS objects you have to UNLESS you put a special mark on those full loads (there is an OSS note on it, and it has been dealt with this week on the forum... can't remember the note nor the subject of the post)

cheers,

Answer:
Thank You.

I tried to search the OSS note for this. But could not get this. Can any one remember?.

many thanks,

Answer:
you can do an initilisation with transfering data. There should be a flag on the infopackage to allow you to do this. If you do this it will activate intilisation on the source system and from that point forward it now lookls for delta's.

Answer:
Oops I mean't! theres a flag with without transfering data.

Hope this helps

Answer:
where would we use this? Just in situations where we have been doing full loads and need to now get deltas?

Answer:
shudekun,
you are right

let's say your initial load would be too large,
you can then split it in smaller amounts,
loading via several full loads,
and then inialize without data transfer,
sothat you can go on with only delta's

Answer:
Even if your initialization is large, you do not have to do several full loads.

You can always fill up the set up tables with several runs by document number ranges (for billing etc.). I had to do this after 1 years operation of R/3 and BW (for 2LIS_12_VCITM, after the table with change pointer got corrupted and we didn't have any backups), and it is running deltas merrily after that.

Then there was the instance when I had to bring in 50 years of sales data from the mainframe system into BW, for the Marketing folks, this was after almost 3 years operation, so I not only had to bring in 50 years of legacy data, but also 3 years of R/3 data into a new ODS and InfoCube.

I did 5 init. deltas by date ranges, then set up the delta infopackage with these 5 date ranges in the data selection tab. After running the init deltas, I brought in the legacy data from a falt file FTP'd onto the app. server, through a file system source. Then actived the delta.

The ODS activation is automatic, the update of data target is also automatic, I have an aggregate in the cube and this roll-up (about which I had posted a question) is also automatic. I only can't stop the damn spooler which prints out 4 lines each in 2 pages every morning after the roll-up. Our basis guys are all at sea!

The point is, you need not have one large initialization, you can break it up into several smaller pieces.

Cheers!
