Question:
HI,
I have a peculier question, this might sound funny for you.
Actually we have a unit box for CRM where all the customization is done and there is little master data and transaction data created by CRM Consultants for basic testing of the application.
Then as usual we have golden client - Dev client for CRM, which should not have any master data or transaction data.
Now my situation is, we are implementing CRM- Analytics using SAP BW as recomended by SAP.
our land scape is.
Dev-CRM <---> Dev-BW - this is also unit box for BW
QA-CRM <---> QA-BW
Prod-CRM <---> Prod-BW.
I have RFC connection to unit box and dev box.
for a pilot study I am trying to get data from unit box which has little data and when I am connecting to CRM-unit box with RFC connection and selecting some datasources and trying to transfer business content from RSA5 - it is giving error as "cross client customization is not permitted for this client" and hence stopping me from transfering business content to active version.
to test wheather data is coming correctly and report on it...I need little data, I spoke to our basis consultant he says we cannot open the settings..I mean we cannot enable the cross client customizing for unit box.
Guys..I am new and confused, please buddies give me a solution which helps me to get data which is in unit box as there is no data in DEV.
Sorry guys....this ia implementation and the initial load of legasy data will come later into QA system of CRM and then to QA of BW.
Kindly tell me, If my approach is wrong.
Waiting to hear from you all. and thanks a lot for your time.
Regards,
Kris.

Hi Kris,
A lot of information - but I think what you are trying to say is that you are trying to activate the BW extractors in CRM dev configuration client using trans RSA5, but the system is closed for cross-client configuration (trans SCC4).
If the basis guys don't allow cross client configuration in the dev configuration client, then you will have to escalate the issue as BW extractors are cross-client.
You will also need to set up a source system in BW linking each BW with each CRM i.e. Dev <-> Dev, QA <-> QA, Prod <-> Prod, which needs the the CRM system to be completely open in Dev, QA and Prod (SCC4 and SE03 namespaces). You really need a BW specialist helping you with this but can get away with the best practise guides to set up some basic business content. The connectivity guide explains setting up the source system.

[I changed the title of your post. Next time, I'll lock it if you are not a little bit more detailed/explicit]
IF I understood your actual problem correctly, I don't fully agree with PJ.
Let's say in your DEV system, client 010 is for customizing and client 020 is containing the data :
as the extractors are most of the time(*) cross client, you have to activate them in 010, and only use it in 020, meaning you should not have to 'open' the client 020 via SCC4 as mentionned.
Now, it's true that to connect your other systems, QA & PRD, it's far easier if you can have the systems open for a short period.
