Can multiple InfoSources be mapped to 1 Datasource

Question: Dear BW experts,

I searched the forum but could not find a discussion around this topic. Can someone advice me on whether it is possible to have more then 1 Infosource mapped to the same datasource? If it is not possible, can someone tell the reason why?

Thank you,
BWperson66

Answer:
Why are you looking for assigning single DataSource to multiple InfoSources?

Answer:
No this is not possible.

Answer:
No, you can't assign mutliple InfoSources to one Datasource.

You CAN, however, map multiple data targets to one InfoSource - which in turn is mapped to a datasource. So if you are looking to send data to multiple targets, you can look at assigning the InfoSource to mutliple data targets and using update rules to massage the data as needed for each data target.

Thanks to all for your replies. Bobcat, I liked your suggestion and I'm going to use this approach.

Answer:
BobCat & others,

As per yours suggestion I am mapping multiple data targets to a single InfoSource. But I have a problem/question. The Infosource that I am mapping to multiple targets is business content Infosorce. When I enhance the SAP standard data source in R/3 (enhance extract structure then add code in user exit to populate this new field) and replicate data source in BW, I see this new field (as expected) in the Infosorce. I map the new datasource field to an Infoobject in the transfer rules. Now, what do I do with the communication structure? If I add the Infoobject to the comm structure, am I not modifying the business content Infosource? And if I do not add this Infobject to the comm struc., how will i pass on the value of this field to the new data target?

I hope I am able to explain my problem and someone can hlep me out.

Thank you-

Answer:
Go ahead and modify the communication structure... Once you have the new field in the Infosource (Transfer rules), the next logical step is to enhance your communication structure and generate update rules. Thats the only way to take the field to the data targets.

Answer:
Dear fans,

speak out if am wrong.

it is possible to assign the flat file datasource to multiple infosources.

Answer:
Yes I agree with the last post - it is now possible (didn't use to be in 2.1). The earlier replies were wrong when they said this cannot be done.

Answer:
flat file datasource is a very specific case of the global idea of mapping datasources to infosources,

I even personally don't consider that this kind of datasource is actually a datasource, as you can't access the datasource from elsewhere than via the infosource.

So, I still believe the answers given are not so bad, considering they cover a large amount of the possible scenari.

If you start your thinking about this concept by stating "yes it's possible for flat file datasources", then you will have a problem to understand the 'normal' way of doing things.

Dear CHC,

As I am new to this forum , but i cannot challenge ur statement, still I some how feel that multiple datasources can be assigned to an infosource of transaction data although not confident , may be experts like u can confirm and say.

thnx

Even experts can be wrong.
Sbobcat, who I consider as being an expert gave his advice.
I, as an advanced beginner, just say I agree with him.

Thanks for the compliment. But I too and just an advanced beginner.
