Trnsporting SPRO settings

Question: Hello,

Is it possible to transport SPRO settings from BW Dev to Production ? If so how do we do this ? We don't want to rely on manually knowing the settings, in case we forget. We looked in Transport connection however find no appropriate object type to do this.

Any help is appreciated.

Answer:
Hi,
In BW, when ever you make configuration changes using SPRO, you will be prompted to create a transport request.
So, note down all these request numbers and transport them TEST and PRODUCTION environments.

Answer:
Not all settings in SPRO are transportable. You will only be prompted for those changes which are transportable.

Here is a Tip:

To find out which settings in SPRO are transportable, go into SPRO -> IMG.
From the menu select Additional Information -> Technical Data -> Transport Type.

This will tell you whether something is an automatic, manual or no transport.

Answer:
Thanks Bobcat, but it just comes back to the same screen when I do that.

What is that screen? I am a little lost with your problem.

Answer:
To find out which settings in SPRO are transportable, go into SPRO -> IMG.
From the menu select [color=blue]Additional Information -> Technical Data -> Transport Type

As you said I tried the same thing (from SPRO screen ofcourse) and it brought me back to same screen. ie SPRO screen.

Answer:
Right, and if you look to the right side of the screen as you drill down in the SPRO menu you should now see on each line item text which says if it is autmatic transport, manual transport, or no transport.

Answer:
Got it. Well I never have my windows totally maximised - I think this will teach me a lesson to do this from now on.

Looks like there's 3 types:

Transport not required
Automatic transport
No transport

Funnily enough, "Maintain extra permitted characters" is transport not required - why would'nt you want to transport this ???

Answer:
Well, this is not transported b/c you may not want the same characters allowed in different machines.

For example, you may have less stringent data needs in deve to facilitate development and testing, but in your QA and PROD boxes you would not want to allow certain charaters in.
