Define Cell

Question: Hi All,
Can someone throw light on "Define Cell" functionality in Bex?

Thanks,
Reshma

Answer:
You can only use this if you have fixed structures in both rows and columns).

If this is the case, you can use the cell editor to write custom formulas based on the cells being displayed in the structure.

The editor is pretty much the same as the editor for any formula in BEx.

Do you have anything more specific at issue?

Thanks for replying. Does this functionality replace Virtual Keyfigures?

Thanks,
Reshma.

Answer:
While doing the cell definition, for each cell we have 3 options(upon right clicking). Can you please explain what each one is?

New Cell Reference
New Selection
New formula

Thanks,
Reshma

Answer:
New Cell Reference - \
makes the cel available for use in other cell formulas

New Selection -
Like a restricted key figure - permits you to override or further define the selection for that cell only

New Formula -
Allows you to create a formula based only on those cells that have been referenced previously. This also gives you the opportunity to "override" the basic definition of the row or column.

Answer:
Further, it does not repace a virtual key figure in that you can only use those values which are present in the cell grid.

(BTW - the last posting was from me also).

Answer:
Thanks for your input.

Now my situation is like this:

In my Row I've 3 fields.

1. Open Stock
2. Open SO qty
3. End stock

In my column I've 3 fields,

1. Month (M)
2. Month (M+1)
3. Month (M+2)

For my intersection cell of Open SO Qty and Month(M), I want to say cummulate all open order quantities of past(M-12) till Month(M) into this cell. How do i do that?

Is that possible using formula variable? if yes, can you please throw some light on it?

Thanks,
Reshma

Answer:
Can some clarify please:

New Cell refernence: Gets the As-IS value without calculation etc from the cube

Thanks,

Reshma

Answer:
I am not sure if I understood your request correctly but I will try to answer as per my understanding.

1. You need to create a variable using SAP Exit so that it can identify the previous 12 months.
2. Create a RKF or a new selection and use stock qty as the key figure and for the fiscal period/year restrict it with the varaible created in step 1.

send me an email at phemrajani@yahoo.com and I can try to send you some screen shots of my bex query design
