How can I initial delta loading one Entity's data w/o erease

Question: Dear all,

In my company, there are serveral entities and we implement BW one by one. During this period, I met a big problem about initial delta loading data into one Basic Cube.

I try to explain the problem with an example:
(Only focus on SD Orders information - Header+Item)

At the 1st phase, we implement BW for Entity A and load all its data.
At the 2nd phase, we implement BW for Entity B. When I try to do the initial delta loading ONLY for Entity B's data, BW reject. I'm asked to delete initial delta load(Entity A) in the cube and re-do inital delta load(Entity A + B).

As inital delta load will cause the problem "Order Intake", it's must be avoided.

Does anybody meet such kind of problem and have the solution? Your reply is very appreciated.

Thanks,echoes

Answer:
You can try the following, but wait for confirmation from the Guru's like Sbobcat, El Belgio etc.

1) You need to clear the initialisation record first, you can do this in the infopackage under the menu option: Scheduler --> Initialisation options for source system.
When you click here you should see a single line that was your original initialisation for Entity A only. you need to delete this line.

2) now do a full upload for Entity B only

3) now do a Initialisation without data transfer

Test this thoughrouly first though if you stuff it up in Prod you are going to kick yourself

Answer:
If you mean there will be more entities being stuffed in BW you could make one cube per entity and create a multicube to be able to report on all.

You can only set an init once, after that you need to work with delta's.

It is also possible to make several infosources, for each entity one, and direct these to an ODS and/or cube.

Answer:
Erik,

You should be able to intialise the Delta separately from Entity A and Entity B, assuming that you are able to select the entity in the infopackage. BW 3.0 allows to Initialise the delta, for example if
you are implementing BW for three company codes A, B, C whose go live dates are different. You should be able to Initialise delta of Comp. code A
and when you want to initialise for Comp code B change the company code in the Data Selection Tab of the infopackage.

BW will prompt you to delete the previous initialisation request, but once you acknowledge that and change the selection criteria, it will allow you to initialise the data for the other Entity in your case B.

Firstly, thank you all for your answers!

1. To Guest:
If I don't misunderstand your words, it can't solve my issue. Because if I delete the initialization request for Company A, I must re-do it. This is the problem I wanna avoid. Sorry I don't test per your solution as I haven't a BW DEV system in hand and I can't test it in BW PRD. I'll get a BW DEV server soon. I'll keep you informed after I test it;

2. To Erik:
Yes, there are many entities being stuffed in BW. Here we use one basic cube. Thanks for your suggestion that 'make one cube per entity and create a multicube to be able to report on all'. I'll consider and do it in the second-wave BW impletation. But multicubes still can't solve the problems 'initial deta loaing per entities'.

Actually if I delete the previous initialization request, all the data in cube will disappear. Then I must re-do initial delta loading for all the three company code. We tried.

you don't need to delete the request... just the initialisation "mark"

InfoPackage > Scheduler > Initialisation Options for Source System >
select the initialisation request > delete

the data remains in the InfoCube

Personally I would go for the solution proposed by Lookie/Erik... it's very clear and easy to use.

Hi,

The option that I am suggesting does not require the Initilisation request to be deleted as you are doing an Initialisation for a different selection in the infopackage. Once you have change the selection you can go ahead and do the initialisation and from then onwards whenever you extract delta the system fetches delta for the Initialised entities.
