I'am installing IGS for BW 3.1C. As per the document in the CD it needs to get connection from R/3. Can anyone tell me why IGS needs connection from R/3.

Its been a while since I looked at the IGS config, but I think the connection it means is the connection to your BW box, not to another R/3 system.

SAP R/4 4.7 Ext. 2.00 does need an IGS instance. But I am with SBobCat, I think in your case it is talking about the connection in BW.
