IGS ?????

Question: Hi,

do we need a seperate server for the IGS or can it be placed on the BW server ?????

Answer:
From what I understand you can put it on the same server... it's just a "service" (but SAP likes to call it a "server" - analogue to the WAS, which is also a service in stead of a server).

Answer:
I also believe you had to install it during the upgrade process itself (but I am not 100% sure of that) .

Answer:
Tine,
It can sit on BW or separate.
IGS also used by SEM(Balance Score Card), CRM, and other SAP GUI Graphs, perhaps this can be your consideration to separate or not.
No need to install IGS during upgrade process.
We just installed it on separate server, what you need from BW is set the RFC connection (as in installation guide).

Answer:
what steps do you have to go through to install it on the BW server?

Is it just the "IGS setttings" menu point on the BW IMG?

Thanks and regards

Answer:
Be careful with advice ppl .... IGS is a service that up until 6.30 can only run on win2k or NT !!!! There is no unix version of the IGS, so it has to be a seperate server if you ae using unix to run BW. Otherwise yes, you _could_ run it on the bw server, but be careful of the load it imposes if you run a graphically R set of web queries.

Been there, done that.

Answer:
You're right... but I assumed (from my sources I know that in our country most BW projects are run on a Windows server) that at Tine's project they are using a Windows server for BW.
