Question:
I have created a query in SAP BW through the SAP Logon, and now I can't edit the query from Excel, and the BEx Analyzer. It says that the query was created in a newer version.
The sapbex.xla file is dated from 5/20/2003 and is in the folder c:\programfiles\sap\frontend\bw. I have applied SAP GUI patch 36 after I installed version SAP GUI 620. The official patch is 30B Patch 8 3020.8.610
I did uninstall SAP GUI first.
Following is the exact message when I try and edit the global query:
"This component was edited with a more recent version of the Editor. You also have to use the more recent version to edit further. Further processing not possible. Update your front end."
I thought I did by UnInstalling SAP, then reinstalling version 620.
Is there an sapbex.xla file that I should be using?

It would sound like you created the Query while on patch 36 and now you are back on patch 30. Try reinstalling patch 36.

One of our users has exactly this problem. I have ruled out it being a patch level issue as another user on a lower patch can change the query.
Did anyone ever find a solution to this?
