Information Message for the User

Question: Hello All:

Is there an option to inform the user when the user tries to run a report indicating that the data is current only until a specific date?

In the past, data load to the InfoCube failed few times and manual intervention was required to fix the error. For example the load to the InfoCube was successful on Monday night and failed on Tuesday night. When user ran the report on Tuesday morning, transactional data as of the previous business day (i.e. Monday) was accurate (since the data load was successful on Monday night). As the data load failed on Tuesday night, is there a way to inform the user running a report on Wednesday that the data is current only as of a specific day (in this example Monday). Since manual intervention may be required sometimes to resolve the data load error, this message (perhaps in the form of a popup or warning or information) will help the users accessing these reports in various time zones to make a better decision. We are on BW 2.1C and would very much appreciate any thoughts/ideas about notifying the users whenever they try to access this report.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Answer:
In BEx Analyzer there is a text element called Status of the Data (different name pre 3.0B / 620 GUI). After you have displayed the text elements you can cut and paste into a different part of the workbook and they update when the data is refreshed.

Hi Robert:
Thanks for the suggestion. I appreciate it.

Usage of text element (data relevance) closely provides a solution to what we are looking for. The ROLLUPTIME shows the point in time when the data for the latest request used for reporting was posted to the InfoCube. Usage of the text elements certainly provides a solution, assuming that data load is successful always.

In the example I mentioned earlier, when the data load error is resolved manually and the data is loaded on Wednesday to the InfoCube (for example by Wednesday noon) and when a report is run, the ROLLUPTIME shows that the data is relevant as of Wednesday, when in fact this data is extracted from R/3 on Tuesday evening. If we can provide on the report the latest extraction date/time from R/3 (we use Logistics Extraction Cockpit) as against the ROLLUPTIME (which doesn't tell when this data was extracted from R/3), user will be able to make the decisions with more certainty.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Sree
