System Status

Question: Hi All,
We want to know whether we are current with the 3.0(B) version.
When we went to sytem->staus under Admin. Workbench and clicked on the magnifying glass, n the pop-up window, we have the following table:

Software Component Release Level
SAP_BASIS 620 0014
SAP_ABA 620 0014
SAP_BW 30B 0007
PI_BASIS 2002_1_620 0006

Can anybody tells us whether we are curent or not?

Also, is there a place on service.sap.com where I can check everyday whether we are have the latest components for a particular version of BW
e.g. 3.0(B). We will notigy the forum under this topic, any latest patches are available for these components if we can locate the service page where we can locate this information.

Also, we haven't gone live yet, so, will anybody suggest us getting upgraded to 3.1(C).

Is it advisable just to stick to on version and apply the patches regularly, if we are satified with the features available with a particular version?

confused..
Thanks in advance
- Gary

Answer:
1. If you search this forum for 3.1C you will find arguments pro and con as to whether or not to upgrade. This has been covered recently in this forum. (I am not going to stoke that fire any further then I already have )

2. No, you are not up to date on patches for your system. You can find all relevant patches and support packages in the following path:

http://service.sap.com/patches -> SAP BW -> SAP BW 3.0B.

3. You can actually find under the BW section of the service marketplace the release schedule for SAP BW patches. Though that can change depending on what problems SAP encounters in getting a support package out.

4. I would not apply a patch right when it comes out. I, personally, have been burned by the last few BW patches that have been released. (Fixed one thing, but broke three others type of deal). Unless you have specific problem addressed by a support package, you don't have to jump to the next patch level if what you have is working.

Good luck learning the ropes.

Answer:
Hi Stephen,
Thanks and that was very helpful. We know where to look for patches now.
Also, any comments on 3.0(B) patch level 9. We are patch on level 7 , can we go for patch level 9 safely. Do you know any issues that will raise with level 9.
Thanks

Answer:
Everyone's experience is different, but we are currently on 10 and still working through issues created by patches 7,8, and 9. Most seem resolved in 10, but Roles in web templates are currently completey broken (see my other post from this morning), so I would holf off if you are using them. If not, give it a shot!

I would make sure you read through the note, completely and a few times for whatever support package you are planning to implement before doing so. You should know up front about any "gotcha's" with a support package.

EX: Support package 8 or 9 (I forget which), will delete your process chain categories. You have to manually export them and re-import them after apply the support package. A small annoyance, but a pain nonetheless.

Enjoy![/code]

I believe that's 9... if I recall correctly you once posted a message on this (February 4th, it's up my wall ).

We're on SP8 and it seems to be stable (had to upgrade or Gui again though as the cell editor didn't seem to work).
