How can users remove personalization for variables

Question: Hi SAPFans!

BW 30B SP9.

When users click personalize in the variable pop-up, the value is stored in the ODS. Next time the user call up the query, the variable doesn't show up. How can users easily change or delete the personalized value for a specific variable?

Cheers

Answer:
In the BEx, use the Change query/"change variable value" Option in the Business Explorer Menu entry.

Answer:
Bonde,

You can also (selectively) delete the contents of the ODSses that store all the personalization data.

Answer:
In the web, there will be an <ALL> button so that all of the variables will show up. From there, you can select delete personalization for the personlize button.

Thanks,

Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your replies.

The all function will solve the problem for web based users.

The change variable values shows the pop-up without the variables for which the user has selected personalization. Calling this function therefore doesn't give the user the option to reset or change the value.

I understand that I as an administrator can selectively delete from the ODS. However, this is not really a solution that is feasible if you have many users in the system.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Cheers

Answer:
Hi Bonde

After calling the above mentioned function =>

When looking at the pop-up you have the option to manually enter a value for you variable - if you go a little further to your right there is a icon for the personalization. This gives you the option to enter, change or cancel personalized values.

Is this the function you are looking for???

Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your reply. The problem is however that the variable does not show up on the pop-up after the personalization has been set and the button therefore doesn't exist either.

Further suggestions is very much appreciated.

Answer:
If you are using web templates, you can check a setting under the general options for the template to force variable display. So that even if they have all variables personalized, it will still display the variable selection page, giving them the opportunity to change or remove their personalization.

I don't know if this is the answer you are looking for, but it is an option.

Answer:
Stephen,

Thank you for the reply. I am aware that we for web users can force the variable back. The problem is for Excel users who can't see the variable unless they go in specifically and remove a drill down which can lead to significant run-times.

Sorry, thought you were just working with Web users. Not sure what you can do in Excel to force the query variable to come up.

Answer:
As Fred_gauthier has said. Once the varibles are set the only way to remove these are to run the bex query with the personalized variables then when the query has run click the "Change query" button then select "Change variable values" this will then display the selection criteria dialog box with all the variables including the personalized ones. You can then click the personalize button at the right hand side of the dialog box and the select "Undo Personalization" button this will then remove the user personalization for the query. Next time the query is run all the variables will be displayed for selection.

How do you do it exactly?

Answer:
Hi!

Just a short comment. I do believe that the intention with the show variable button was to allow the user to change the personalized variables. However, if the variables are defined as one that can be changed in navigation, it will not show on the variable screen - not even with this technique. Deleting from an administor perspective is not a very practical way. I believe there is a small design error from SAP's side here.

Answer:
I dont find much reason to use personalization. The function often confuses end users.

Is there a way to hide peronalize button from Bex Popup?
(We activated personalization in SPRO)

Answer:
Yes, turn off personalization.
