Question:
Error formatting terminal data, transaction terminated
is the error message I receive when I try to display any object out of the list displayed in metadata repository under Business Content - local objects
any idea ?
Answer:
I had the same message several times yesterday; in Process Chains, Where Used and Business Content. I searched for notes but couldn't find a match for our release.
We have been on 3.0B SP8 for ages, yet I haven't noticed it before. Maybe there's been some Basis maintenance. Here's our SPAM data...

My first idea was that it could be due to the level of the Web browser used;
I am here using Microsoft Internet Explorer Version 5.50.4807.2300 with SP2
No idea if this means I have a recent browser or not...
This is not an urgent matter for me as I could find a workaround (busy with a training, not on a project), but would like to be able to explain why it happens.

Following a bit more investigation I have found that the kernel was updated yesterday, in preparation for applying the latest BW support packs tonight.
Development is already at SP13 and does not appear to have a problem, so it seems possible that there is some incompatibility in the presentation layer with earlier support packs. Hopefully tomorrow I will be able to confirm whether going to SP13 fixes it.

Look at this one, it allowed me to bypass the problem
But the same applies when I want to install business content...
Answer:
After applying SP13 the problem appears to be resolved.
Answer:
Hi,
we have already SP13 on our System, but the error message still was there.
When I installed the newest Patch for the SAPGui, the problem seems to be resolved.
Answer:
I believe if you apply the frontend patch 27 it takes care of it.
Note 0591242 - Wrong length info for data block sent to backend
Previously the length specified for the data transfered from the SAP GUI to the backend was checked differently by the backend. Therefore wrong length values for the data packets send to the backend in some cases did not have any affect. With the newer 640 kernel patches this wrong length value will cause the termination of the transaction.
Kind regards,
AQ
