Filter selection criteria not showing

Question: Hi,

I am putting a couple of fields in the Filter area to filter out the records that I want to select from a cube, but I am not getting the field selections to enter at the Bex selection criteria in order to choose what I want to select from the query. What am I doing wrong??

Thanks

Answer:
Assuming I have understood your query correctly.

In order for you to enter a choice when executing the query you need to define variables for the charateristics that you want to filter on.

When you execute the report the system will prompt you to enter the values for the characteristic. The system will then select the data based on your selection criteria.

It sound, if I have understood correctly that you have applied a filter on the query itself, presumably with pre-defined values. When the query is executed the system will simply just extract the data based on that criteria.

Your assumption is correct.

I just want a simple query using the Filter area to get the data based on that criteria, but I am not getting the selection criteria screen for those 2 fields when I execute the query.

Any other ideas.

Answer:
As per the previous response.

If you wish to have selection criteria for your characteristics in the filter area, you need to create variables for each of the characteristics.

Transaction for Maintain Variables in BEx is RSZV. The process is very straightforward.

In the filter area add the variables to the characteristics via the 'restrict' screen and the variables tab.

You should now get a selection box when you run the query.
Hope this helps.

Answer:
If they are standard fields (characteristics) like 0customer, 0material, 0calday etc., you don't have to create any variable, just expand the characteristic node till you see the variables, then drag and drop them to wherever you want them. This way you are using variables rather than defining or creating them!

Answer:
I am using infoobject 0BATCH and 0REC_TYPE. I expanded them from the Bex definition screen but I couldn't find the standard variables attached to them. I only see the '= Values' for expanding.

I was able to do something like this before without have to create the variables per previous suggestions to use the tx RSZV.

Any other ideas about 0BATCH and 0REC_TYPE.

Thanks

Answer:
I don't have access to my system now, so can't verify this, but check in the business content if you have missed any variables, and install them. Otherwise the only option is to create them with RSZV.
