Question:
What is the best practice to create query? Is it in dev and transport to qa--> prd. In our situation, now we have some queries created in dev and transported to qa and prd. Some queries got created directly in Production this include good queries and chunk queries. User just modified directly against PRD when they needed to. We don't do in dev and transport to qa to prd. So we want to know what is the best practice to create query and modify query? And how other companies are doing this? Please advise!
Thanks,
Wendie
Answer:
Hi Wendie,
This topic has been batted around this forum many times so ill start as we always start with this subject (search the forum).
Ok thats out of the way. BW is designed for ad-hoc queries if you transport them threw the system then you loose the ability to create them on an ad-hoc basis everytime a little change needs to be made to one you have to re-transport. End users can and perhaps should create queries in the system which becomes harder if they are doing so in dev or test. One final issue with creating in the dec client, what are you going to do about data as most deve clients are not data copies of PRO and the number of problems you can get when you report is hit by 50000 transactions is different than 10 records.
Hope this helps.
