Use of replacement articles in IS Retail

Question: In the article master data there is a possibility to provide a certain master article with a 'replacement' articlenumber (field BISMT in MARA). Also you can fill up a period (data from and date thrue) in which this replacement article is valid.

When a company wants to 'activate' the principle of replacement in the orderflow from shops to DC, how should this be taken care of ? In other words : for article X replacement article Y has been set in de master data. When a shop orders X, the articlenumber in the order has to be changed automatically to Y.

Also important is the question what the exact role is of above mentioned validity period of the replacement article. And also in relation to the listing of the article.

Last but not least I can tell you that the company in this example works with IS Retail 4.6C, but for the ordering-proces by the shops they use another application (non-SAP), which interfaces to Retail SAP.

Answer:
so what's your question?

Answer:
Question is if the field "replacement article" can be "actived" (for example in the customizing) or that it remains a ordinary info-field with no control.

And what is the meaning of both the 'date from' and 'date thrue', which are mentioned next to the replacement-article ? Are these dates also ordinary info-fields or do they have a control-mechanism ?

Hopefully you can advise me.

Thanks in advance.

Answer:
Hi,

Is 'replacement article' function available in 4.6C?

Answer:
Yes, this function is surely available in 4.6C.

Do you know more about it and maybe also my questions in specific way ?

Answer:
Hi

I have not seen 'replacement article' funtion before 4.7C. I learnt this function from ECC6.0 IS-Retail only.

MARA-BISMT is 'Old material number', following is SAP's help on it:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Old material number
Number under which you have managed the material so far or still manage it, for example, in another system or in a card index.

Use
You can use the old material number to systematically search for material master records via matchcodes.

Hi Robingranite,

Another post about the same subject told me about the function "material determination", which is available in standard R/3. With help of this function it must be possible to arrange a substitution of articles, for example you order article A, you receive B.

But I cannot get to know if the MARA-BISMT field can be used in combination with this function. Do you know maybe ?

When I look in customizing (SPRO) I find this function under "Sales and Distribution", "Basic functions". Does this mean that it is not possible to create a substitution of two articles in een purchase ordering traject ???

This because I want to take the substitution of two articles take effect when a PO-order is entered in the system by a plant. When the plant orders article A, article B must be delivered.

You understand my meanings I hope, maybe you can provide me with some advise.

Thanks.

Answer:
Hi avoortl,

According to your description, you use STO(A special type of PO) to ordering articles from DC to Stores, and then create delivery documents from STO.

If that is true, I think 'material determination' function in SD is not suitable in your business senario. (I have no sap retail system on hand, you can try it in your system.)

For 4.6C, I have another idea:
1. create a material determination condition table and maintain article substitution condition in it.

2. develop an enchancement in function which create delivery document from STO. If article A is not available in stock, it will search the condition table and find article B. If B is available in stock, then add B in delivery document.

This idea is imperfect, I think, but I hope it will help you.
