Hi,
Our Vendor and us both have ERP 5.0.
Our vendor has an EDI subsystem and have configured it and ready to roll out.
We have XI but is not installed/configured and we now no inhouse expertise on that.
Given this scenaario, we want to receive the invoices from our Vendors in electronic format and automatically process these invoices.
What would be the best short and long term approach to go about this.
Any pointers to get us started would be greatly apprecaited.

Hi,
It's not very important that your vendor has SAP ERP 5.0 or not.
The most important is to know which data that you should receive from your vendor and how to fill the data not sended but you need to create the invoice in your system.
This kind of interface can be generalized to all your vendors so you should design an open interface that can be adapted/modified quickly...
I think this scenario sould be very interesting:
Your vender send you the data that he has using XML.
The XML message will be received by XI and will be transformed to an IDOC. XI will fill in the mandatory fields that your vendre can't send.
The IDOC will be sent to your ERP to generate the invoice.

Thanks for the update.
We just spoke to our Vendor.
This is how we plan on doing this.
They are using GXS as their messaging partner and we would get the data in the IDOC format that is required for our system. We need to talk to GXS and determine the cost per transaction involved for that.
Any ideas on what that might be?
Down the line after we install XI we might do away with them .
