R/3 based BCS vs BW based BCS

Question: Hello,

Could you plz.explain what are all the differences on R/3 based BCS vs BW based BCS...?

Hi Elangon,

The similarity is in both the cases the consolidation happens in BW server.

The difference is like this:

In R/3 based on the data flow is from R3 to BCS cubes.( Thru flat file mechanism only)

In BW based the data flow is R3>BWcubes>BCS cubes.

Going forward we will have only EC CS and BIW based BCS. SAP has/will stopped development/support on other products.

SAP is not doing major development in ECCS and the support will stop by 2009 for ECCS. So it is more or less in sunset mode.

Also R3 based BCS is not more available from SEM 4.0 The sun rise is onBW based BCS.

I disagree on both statements, this is not what we did in the last R/3 based BCS (BCS 3.0 is almost = EC-CS 4.6) implementation I did (5 years ago)
