User licenses

Question: We are in the process of implementing SAP version 5. This is a new implementation. One thing that we are wondering about - Is there a way, ie. software, method, etc., to use one user license for multiple read-only accesses to the SAP system? For example, enabling customers to check the status of their order, themselves. We would hate to have to purchase a user license for every customer!

Any insight would be helpful.

Thank you.

SAP version 5

SAP is a vendor name. What product do you refer to here?

Depends on the user-types. SAP has different user license types. Check with the SAP sales department.

Answer:
I don't know if this helps, but here are some definitions of the types of licenses - I would reccommend checking with your SAP representative as it probably depends on which module is in use.

Operational: An Operational (OP) user is an individual authorized to access the licensed software to execute, create, read, update and delete SAP software transactions. this user can also make changes to the database.

Information: An Information (IN) user isan individual authorized to access the licensed software solely to perform read-only SAP transactions. This user cannot make any changes to existing data or add any new data.

Requisitions/Confirmations (A/R) user is an individual authorized to access the licensed software solely for the purpose of:

-Submitting purchase requisition (MM)
-Entering order confirmations (PP)

Basis-Only: A basis-Only user is an individual authorized to access the licensed software solely for the purpose of executing the following transactions:
-Document management including optical archiving
-Monitoring and administration of the software
-All transactions contained in the licensed Human Resources functions
-All Enterprise Office/HR user transactions solely for the individual's own purposes
-All transactions contained in the licensed IS Health Care functions, as long as the sales unit is not IS-H users

The Basis Only user is authorized to use the runtime enviornment for applications developed in-house.

Development Workbench: A Development Workbench (DW) user is an individual authorized to use the ABAP Workbench. ABAP Workbench user authorization is required to create workflow definitions. At least one DW user must be classified per installation.

Enterprise HR: An Enterprise Office/HR (EHR) user is an individual authorized to access the licensed software solely for the purpose of executing the following transactions:

Employee records maintenance
Employee time and attendance entry
Employee travel planning and expense report filing
Employee directory
Employee training registration
INternal job advertisements
Calendar job functions
Employee specific purchase requisitions
E-mail including document filing

Each enterprise Office/HR user may execute the above transaction solely for such individuals own purposes and may not execute transactions for or non behalf of other individuals.
