Using MS Office documents (.doc, .xls) in SRM

Question: Hi all!
We are implementing SRM 4.0 stand alone scenario (no backend at all). We have a requirement to run MS Office applications, to open doc and xls files from SRM and also to transfer data from SRM to MS Office applications.
We are using SAP GUI for HTML technology to solve development tasks and we are able to use open/save, upload/download functions for files. (We use Java, SAP GUI is not installed on customer's PC).
Can we use DOI technology in the same way to have a possibility of working with MS Office documents? If not, may be OLE technology can help us? May be you have examples or experience of using such technologies in the same conditions?

Thank you for answers in advance!
Regards, Olga

Answer:
I've never seena anything like this before - in what way would the documents be used? Can you provide an example of how this might work?

For example: User creates a shopping cart, and the shopping cart is awaiting approval - when the approver logs into the system, a MS word document suddely appears?

What is the relationship between MS Office and SRM?
