APO Planning book - Products display

Question: Hi APO Gurus,
I have lot of products in APO (finished goods and components). In the planning book, I need only finihed goods to show up for planning and not the components. How can I eliminate the components data out of planning book?

However, I need component data for reporting purposes. That means, I need data in info objects, but not in LiveCache. Also, I want only finished goods to appear in product drop down, not components.

All suggestions are highly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your time and input.

Answer:
You'll need some sort of characteristic in the material master to differentiate between finished goods and components. This will probably have been set up somewhere in R3 already and may be the number range for the material or material type from the characteristics.

If it is a separate attribute like material type you need to ensure that this is transferred from R3 into your material master & included in the planning object structure for your planning area and the planning book(s) you are using. Then in planning object structure design you need to assign this characteristic as navigable and it should then be available as a selection criteria in the planning books(s) for the relevant planing area (if the characteristic is included in the planning book).

If it is just related to the number range you only have to define specific ranges of numbers in your selection criteria. Obviously this will be easier to control if the selections are created and assigned centrally, otherwise your users will have to ensure they set the corect selection for this criteria themselves.

Reading your question again you'll need to exclude the non finished products from being transferred to Livecache. This can also be done using the selection criteria in exactly the same way but as a parameter for the load to LC from the cubes (sales history etc). Just remember to only load Ferts.

Or if LC capacity is not an issue and you want component planning to be carried out in APO but not necessarily displayed you'll still need the halbs in LC so just go for the filter in the above reply on the planning books.
