Question:
We are currently using a EDI subsystem Harbinger (now called Pregrine) for all our EDI transactions.
We wanted to evaluate if we can use Business Connector for the same.
- Are any of you using business connector for EDI?
- What are the benefits in using business connector?
- Can we use BC with 46B?
- Are there any other SAP products we can use for the same?
Thanks in advance

Answer:
Business Connector is mainly for XML based messaging. I believe there is an EDI connector for Business Connector, but I don't know if it would be as mature as a product such as Harbinger. It is probably just for EDI-INT, and doesn't handle proprietary VAN communication.
Yes you can use Business Connector with SAP 4.6, in fact I think it probably doesn't matter what version of SAP you have, as BC is installed on a separate server and just communicates through ALE messaging.
Benefits of Business connector is that it is free when you have SAP. Also, it is very good for mapping from IDOCs into XML and using transactional RFC and BAPIs between SAP and external systems or partners.
Disadvantage is that it won't be supported for too much longer, as SAP XI will supercede it.
