Question:
I have built my scorecard and included status determination for the objective as well as the measures assigned to it based on the BW queries in the measure definition. I've also setup the value fields, formula and the assignment table for score determination .
Unfortunately as I am not quite clear on the periodization / time variables concept I am not getting any data when I open my scorecard overview or analysis.
I would greatly appreciate if any of you could help answer these queries:
1. Do the queries assigned to the measures and initiatives need to have the time characteristic included in the query definition for CPM measures to read data from BW ?
2. If the answer to the above is yes how does periodization / time variables relate to the time characteristics in the query . I am looking for a conceptual answer as the mechanics is explained in the help but kind of difficult to follow.

1. Yes, as a free characteristic.
2. To me the time variables in the scorecard value field definition must equate to that in the BW query. For example I have defined "current period - 11" as a time variable to capture a rolling 12 months total for a measure. It is defined in both places.
Note that this type of aggregation is not available in the scorecard, all I could get was a simple year to date (the scorecard will do this, you don't need a special query).
Periodisation to me refers to the frequency of the measure and is not related to the query.
Please take this answer with a grain of salt as SEM is only a small part of my job. However we do have working scorecards in our company.

In scorecard design would you have Data Integrity set to "read from buffer" ? If so you must run "Buffer BW Data" to get any results showing.
