Hi
We're in the initial stages of investigating the implementation of BPS to replace various Hyperion based planning systems.
We are live with BW 3.0B support pack 6 (no SEM components) and looking to install the SEM-BPS add on to this system so as to allow us to set up a proof of concept system.
Are there any cons with this approach or any issues to be aware of. We're trying to avoid the expense and maintenance of a new BW installation just for BPS.

I don't see major problems.
I did this install.
install SEM
install FINBASIS
install IGS (LOOK FOR LATEST VERSION AT SAPNET)
install support packs for FINBASIS and SEM

Answer:
One thing you need to know, the SEM SP level in 3.1B should be 1 less than BW SP level in 3.0B. Thus BW 3.0B SP6 requires SEM 3.1B SP5.
The main reasons for separate servers for SEM from BW is different version of BW and SEM (i.e. on production BW 2.x but want SEM 3.1). Another reason may be performance related if you have a large number of users for BW and SEM..
