Need for EDI Sub-Systems for processing SAP EDI docs(IDOCs)

Question: Hello,
As per my understanding EDI Subsystems, translate IDOCs and send it out to trading partners.
Why are these EDI Subsystems used when I have this capability in SAP R/3 with IDOCs?
Is it merely ease of use and uasge of existing EDI infrasturcture that the EDI Sub-sytems are used?
Would it be a best practice to manage EDI entirely on SAP without using an EDI Sub-sytem?
Shoot ur thoughts......
Regards,

Answer:
The conversion of a business document (data mapping) in IDoc format to an EDI standard format (an vice versa) is the most important task performed by a subsystem from SAP's perspective. This process is quite resource-intensive and is better handled at the subsystem level instead of within SAP.

Also, SAP does not want to maintain all the EDI standards that are in existence (X12, EDIFACT etc.) which are constantly evolving. This task is better left to vendors that provide EDI subsystems.

Hope this answers your question

Answer:
Hi,

There are many systems available for use - for example, the Microsoft BizTalk Server together with the Microsoft BizTalk Adapter for SAP provides the job.

Answer:
Also you could translate the document with Business Connector that is free under R3 license.
