Hyperion vs. SEM

Question: We are currently looking at leveraging our existing SAP landscape to implement SEM and phase out our current Hyperion financials reporting strategy. Does anyone have a rough idea in terms of how many consultants we would need for such an undertaking? At this point we feel that 1 SEM Functional, 1 SEM Technical, 1 BW/SEM and 1 internal Basis resource should suffice. In addition can anyone recommend a company that could provide specialized expertise in regards to SEM implementations? The estimates I have heard at this point seem a bit high and overstaffed. As a company I would like to consider us frugal as opposed to cheap

I appreciate any help you can provide.

Hi,
What modules of SEM are you planning to implement? What functionality of Hyperion are you planning to be addressed thro SEM?

SEM skills are in shortage. If you can provide your contact details, we can discuss about some of the service providers.

I think you must be crazy to do migration from Hyperion to SEM. I guess you want to do Hyperion Enterprise to SEM-BCS. Try it. What perhaps is the work of one person on Hyperion running on a Windows Server you will end up hiring about 4 ro 5 people a few UNIX midange boxes to do the same.

Have you guys gone mad ? or you trying to stimulate the economy.

I hope you can count money ?

Look I am not trying to deride any technology if Hyperion is doing a good job why are you even remotely thinking of replacing it. Don't think from a perspective of one size fits all it is a foolish idea unless somebody is trying to build is empire.

MS,

What you are missing is the business resources and you need some business resources, preferably full time or several part time ones.
Depending on how much internal resources and expertise you have inhouse and how much time you have and how large is the scope of your project could determine your consulting resource requirement. Some difference could be if you are implementing BCS Consolidation or BPS Planning.

I have been on project with 3-4 SEM consultants plus BW consultant plus basis or on other project where there is a decent BW team in place and some internal people knowledgeable in business and R/3 being trained up in SEM that only required one SEM techno-functional consultant..

Hope this helps, Mary

I have implementated BPS/BW solutions that replace Hyperion Pillar/EssBase/Planning. If you can be more specific about your scope maybe I can be of further assistance.
