Can anyone comment on the utility of Best Practices documentation on APO as a guide during implementation. What are the surprises in store during an DP implementation?

Answer:
BP are normally applied to a DEV system and act as a template no matter what the flavor. They can be useful in that some standard configuration is provided but some people don't like the fact that they tend to add "trash" to the instance.
I recommend that you pull down the documentation for the APO BP in order to research what the BP configuration provides. Then you should be able to make an informed decision re: their usefulness at your site.
