Question:
Good day,
This is a very unusual situation, which i have come across,
The situation is....
I have a PPM for a material with 5 modes which correspond to five sequnece in R/3(One standard & 4 alternatives). Now each mode have different durations for the activites (Produce&Setup)and this are transferred from R/3.Each mode have different work centers(Resources in APO).
I create a Receipt element (Production order) on mode 4(resource 4
specified in the 4th Mode of PPM) using PPT.
This order when transferred to R/3 is always created with the standard sequence except that the work center is replaced by the one selcted in APO.This is also acknowleged by SAP as standard behaviour.....in one of the OSS notes and i think it is OK...
The problem is ...and i just cant belive this,
The activity durations are copied from the standard sequnce...and not from the alternative sequence which contains the work center,This affects the confirmation of the orders as we expect the system to propose the values for activitys from the alternate sequence and not the standard sequence....This as well is accepted as standard behavior by SAP in one of the OSS notes...
We do all the optimisations...rescheduling....multi site planning...etc....in APO and the thing really matters...capacities & Money....are gone for a toss during execution....
Hope a lot of you guys might have come across such a situation.....
Am i missing some thing(Custom....)Is there any standard solution other than a user exits...
Looking forward to a discussion on this...
Thanks,

Hi there
yes I heard about this before.
I am not sure, if PP order outbound user exit is able to change
duration of operation.

Answer:
hi,
I have not come across such problem. but I have worked with scenario where the alternative sequences were more than 50 and system was taking correct time as per sequence in R/3.
The probable reason for this behaviour could be configuration in R/3 where planned order is scheduled again in r/3. Please confirm in configuration that the order coming from APO is not scheduled again by R/3.
Hope this helps.

Answer:
Hi Uday/Klaus,
Actually we dont transfer PLanned orders from APO to R/3,We transfer the production orders .
Just to continue the discussion,
Logically ,The secheduling will be done after the selection of the sequence rather than before,So even if you have scheduling switched of for the orders coming from APO.....it doesnt help the selection of the sequence.
Correct my logic if i am missing something..
Also if we switch of the scheduling for the orders in R/3 ,i think that the orders when transferred back to APO will be missing the operations or the orders it self as only orders and operations relevant for scheduling are transferde to APO not even capacity requirements.
Can we discuss further and find something....
Thanks,

Answer:
Interestingly, to make it work, you may need to check Automatically Scheduling on scheduling parameter screen, and Scheduling is checked on control definition.

Answer:
We do not face the same problem as you mentionned.
May be this due to our disign which not to use an alternative sequence
but an alternative ressource in the routing. (via work center classification).
Therefore via the user exit within the PPM the alternatives values are transmitted to PPM with correct values for each work center in each mode.
When we move one mode to another both machines and values are propagated back to R/3.
So main is: it is possible to make it run correctly.
Answer:
Hello ,
Could you let me know how can I create alternative ressource in the PDS (via work center classification).
and if I change the mode in APO. Will it be reflected back into the R/3 system during execution.
Warm regards,
Parag.
Answer:
Hi there,
We use modes but have always been told that these are only applicable where each of the different modes has the same duration. Perhaps you are trying to take things too far with modes.
I am interested to know hwo you managed to create your PPM with different durations within each mode though. We are using PP-PI and master recipes and are unable to achieve different durations within the modes.
