APO -DP Inability to track quantity changes in forcasts

Question: APO - Demand Planning

Does anyone know if there is a method to track quantity changes in forcasts? When a person changes an entry in a planning book, the system does not automatically create a historical record of the change?

Does anyone know if there is a way to handle the changes.

Thanks in advance!!!
Jason

Answer:
2 ideas that worked on previous DP implementations:
- Take snapshots (weekly/daily...) and report from APO BW : cumbersome and in the end nobody really looks at the report.
- Create another Key Figure where the forecast is copied once a month (or weekly depending on your planning cycle) and lock with "Output only". Make sure that the disag. rule of this key figure is the same as the original forecast entry key figure.

I am sure you can find better way...but have not come accross it yet

good luck

Answer:
There can be two (or more) solutions, depending on your exact requirement.

If you need to capture the how, what, and when of a forecast change, you'll need audit trail functionality. Although no such functionality exists out of the box, it can be developed using macros. You can create a default macro that validates whether a key figure value has changed. If it does change, you can create a entry in a z-table that records the original value, the new value, the user, and the date (or any other data you might need). Then create a BW report that reports this data.

If you just need to capture the values of all key figures at a periodic interval, extract the planning area contents to an InfoCube. By using a timestamp for the extraction period, you can run reports that compare the values of key figures during points in time. This is normally called a waterfall report.

I hope this helps.

This is great information . This will help us get an idea as to what we need to look at for custome development.

Thanks!
