Question:
Hi everybody,
more than once i heard something about reconsidering using the SAP BC when migrating to SAP 4.7. Can anybody tell me where that comes from ? I 've heard that the BC will be supported but won't be extended anymore.
I assume that it means a move towards netwaever/XI ? Is netweaver more integrated in 4.7 ?
I'm interested in everybodies opinion...
Thanx., Martin.
Answer:
Hello,
we are using 4.7ex2.00 and SBC 4.7 without any problem.
I do not expect any problem with that combination. RFCs are standard way of SAP communication with the rest of the world.
XI is more advanced, but not integrated. It is running on WAS, and it is SAP product, but there are some special licencing issues with it (you are paying by traffic in GB).
I will wait for XI 3.0 to consider move.

End-Of-Life SAP Business Connector
The SAP Business Connector (SAP BC) will be set end-of-life.
The last release of SAP BC is version 4.7. There will be no further development of the coding of SAP BC. The SAP BC will be delivered jointly only up to SAP Web AS 6.40. Support and maintenance for SAP BC will be available until the end of support and maintenance of the SAP Web AS 6.40. All products and components that use SAP BC must become independent of SAP BC by Dec. 31st, 2004, or with the successor release of SAP WebAS 6.40. Starting with the unrestricted availability of SAP XI 2.0 and SAP Web AS 6.20 SAP components are able to communicate natively via XML. More information about the SAP BC end-of-life can be found in SAP note 571530.
Best Regards
JLG

Agreed, but EOL is as for WAS 6.40. But that means that you will not get support after that period.
License is up to 2023. So, you will be still able to use it.
