Question:
Hi,
we are having a "excel freeze" problem when using dialog module program in BPS planning.
Our users follow these steps to accept quotes for materials.
--> open BW report to review existing quotes> (BW reports displayed in excel)
--> execute folder that displays planned data in excel. (let's say, planned data displays quotes for 25 different materials).
& let's say user decided to accept 15 quotes for 15 materials.
We've created a planning funciton "ACCEPT" that uses "user exit variable (ZMATVAR)" for characteristic MATERIAL.
when users click on ACCEPT, it calls a dialog module that pops up a window for materials entry, and this dailog module sends the user entered materials to variable ZMATVAR.
the problem we are facing is...
when user clicks on "ACCEPT" function that pops up a dialog module for materials input, system is freezing the excel.
At this point, We could able to look at BW report excel file, but we couldn't able to copy 15 materials from BW report & paste in the dialog module window. The only option we have is MANUALLY INPUT ALL 15 materials into dialog module window and accept 15 quotes which is not at all user friendly. (also, we can't access planning layout excel sheet here)
following steps might work out...
1st, copy 15 materials from BW report / from Layout & later click on ACCEPT button in the planning folder & paste 15 materials in the dialog module window.
but, we shouldn't expect every user to follow this sequence. right?
has any one faced this situation?
Usually, what is the best approach in this kind of scenarios like accepting only few materials out of the current layout materials.
appreciate your help.
Answer:
Hi
Ask ur users to open a couple of excel sessions. Pls note separate excel sessions does not mean separate excel file but it mean separate excel program.
Hope i m clear and this works.

Answer:
Hi Chirag,
thanks for your reply.
Can we open multiple excel programs at a time?
you mean multiple programs means... multiple excel instances?
I've read that Microsoft allows only 1 excel instance at a time on any PC.
if am not in the direction which you are showing, could you please more elaborate your answer.
thanks
Answer:
Dear Clem
We can open multiple excel prog at a time. I am not a techie and i assume multiple programs means... multiple excel instances.
Microsoft does allow the same. I m not facing any prob in the same.
What i suggest is you open one excel file, then go to start >> programs >>MS Excel. This will open another instance.
Hope m clear now.

Answer:
Hi Chirag,
thanks for your reply.
This is what I've noticed.
I've opened 10 BW-BEx reports so I've 10 excel sheets open.
I've executed plannig folder & executed funciton that calls dialog module. at this point,
I can switch back to 10 BEx reports but none of these 10 excel sheets allow me to copy any contents.
What I meant by excel instance means, "excel.exe" program which is displayed in the task manager where we see all running programs.
No matter how many excel sheets we open, we see only one "excel.exe" program in the task manager.
hope it is clear.
Appreciate any other suggestions.
