Answer:
CIF stands for CoreInterFace. It allows realtime updates between R3 and APO (both ways if required). It applies primarily to SNP & PPDS. You transfer rel;evant master data from R3 (plants, materials, workcenters, boms routings etc.) and then have the ability to transfer transactional data for the materials etc that you have already transferred (stocks, plans, confirmations, dispatches etc).
Check out the other posts throughout the Forum on this, it's a very big subject but most parts are covered, often in great detail, in the existing posts.
As it's so big I won't try and explain how to set it up here, look for notes in the service market place (particularly in the FAQ section there is a full explanation there). SAP also offer a course (used to be AP205 not sure what the current code is). In the APo system look for "integration" and "publication" transactions (see the tools menu), in R3 under logistics , central functions, look at SCP interfaces.
Hope this helps, It might seem tough at first but it makes all the difference!
Answer:
The new code for course is SCM210 : Data integration. Functionnal content, very few technical. (standard, but no real information about possible enhancements)
