Also a lot of outsourced support. We used Satyam to support the implementation and do all our ABAP for APO. This was done both onshore in the UK and offshore in Poona (sorry if I spelt it wrong). The best guy that worked for me through the whole project was an Indian consultant, we would have been sunk many times ove if it was not for the mighty Datta.
I'm sure all the main IT organisations will have pretty big APO teams.
