Question:
In our productive system we have a characteristic with more than 10,000
values. In one of our planning layouts we are using a variable that
must be restricted by the user, but has no previous restriction on the
available values.
Because of this we get an error message because there's a limit of
10,000 values for a variable, but we cannot really change its design.
Is there a way we can modify this parameter or overcome this limit?
Thanks,
Guille
Answer:
1. could you include the values in a variable of type hierarchy and selecting nodes instead of values in your variable
2. could you create a second variable of type attribute of the characteristic of the 1st one. Then you select an attribute in the 1st variable and the characteristic variable only displays the values of that attributes.
Hope this might help.

Hi Guille,
The issue is probably not that the variable is over 10,000 values but that there is a limit on the planning layout of 9,999 values.
There is a check box in the user variable for "Restriction of value by user". If you check that, they would be forced to select a value..
Hope this helps,
Mary
Answer:
Sorry, you meant that it has trouble getting into the layout when the variable is not restricted.
If you include the user variable in a planning folder and do not have it open any layout right away, then the user would be given a chance to select the user value and not get the error...
