I NEED YOUR HELP (HANDS ON EXPERIENCE ON SAP)

Question: WE ARE A FERRY OPERATOR COMPANY AND IMPLEMENT SAP (FI, CO-PA,SEM, MM, HR,SD) .

WE ARE USING IBM FOR SAP CONSULTING. CURRENTLY THEY DELIVER THE TO-BE DOCUMENTS(BLUE PRINTS) AND THEY WILL VERY SOON START THE CUSTOMIZING WORK FOR THE PROTOTYPE ACCORDING TO ISIM METHODOLOGY.

WE FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE AND NEED SOME ADVICE HOW TO GET HANDS ON EXPERIENCE DURING THE PROTOTYPE AND THE WHOLE IMPLEMENTATION PERIOD. THE IBM CONSULTANTS ARE RELUCTANT TO PASS OVER TO US ANY KNOW HOW CONCERNING THE CUSTOMIZING AND IMPLEMENTATION WORK. WHEN WE PROPOSED TO INCORPORATE SOME OF OUR PEOPLE FROM IT IN THE PROJECT TEAM, THEY REFUSED WITH THE ARGUMENT THAT THIS WOULD DELAY THE PROJECT.

I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY ADVICE ON HOW TO PROCEED IN ORDER TO GET MOST FROM THE WORK WE ARE DOING. WE NEED (AS A COMPANY) TO BECOME AS INDEPENDENT AS POSSIBLE AND NOT DEPEND ON THE CONSULTANTS FOREVER.

WE HAVE HEARD ABOUT BECOMING A SAP CC (COMPETENCY CENTER). HAVE YOU GOT ANY EXPERIENCE ON THAT? WHAT IS REQUIRED FROM OUR SIDE IN ORDER TO DO THAT?

Answer:
I can understand a customer only supplying input for the Blueprint phrase, but they should be active participants in the Implementation phase. Otherwise, who will fix things after IBM leaves? Who will explain why certain configuration was done five years from now?

When you hire a consultant company to assist you with your SAP implementation, that is exactly what they are supposed to do - assist. Knowledge Training is a very important part of any SAP implementation, and a consulting firm that fails in this, fails his client.
