If i am using only Demand Planning, do i need to transfer any master data from R/3 ?
I can load the data from excel to the infocube and create CVCs using this data.

You can flat file it or manually create it, then use excel as you say to load this data to cube.
Answer:
No need to load master data.
Just use the CSV file for DP run.
